Gilberto Silva picks two players he would love Arsenal to sign, PSG ace and £50m star

Gilberto Silva has responded on Twitter when asked who he would sign at Arsenal – naming two players. He jokes that he would love Kylian Mbappe, before naming a more realistic signing in the form of Yves Bissouma.

Silva has hit the nail on the head in identifying two positions in which the Gunners need strengthening. For once, Arsenal have a settled defence and a goalkeeper – and they are also strong on the flanks.

But in the middle of the pitch, Arsenal lack options. Mo Elneny and Thomas Partey are at AFCON – with Elneny out of contract in June, too. Ainsley Maitland-Niles has gone to Roma, and Granit Xhaka is now suspended.

So, a central midfielder is key and Juventus ace Arthur is being linked. Up top, Eddie Nketiah and Alexandre Lacazette are like Elneny – out of contract in June. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been ostracised by the Gunners.

Silva was active on Twitter on Friday and he answered many questions from Arsenal fans. One was the inevitable, who would he sign if he could – and named both PSG’s Mbappe, and Brighton’s Bissouma.

It goes without saying that a move for Mbappe has zero chance. While his contract is up in the air, the chances are that the France star will either remain at PSG – or move to Real Madrid in the coming months.

But Bissouma, could really end up at the Gunners. Brighton and Arsenal, of course, have a good relationship after a £50million deal saw Ben White go to the Gunners. Mat Ryan also joined Arsenal on loan last January.

Sky Sports report that Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard are pushing to bring Bissouma to the club this summer – but that a fee north of £40million, as much as £50million will be needed.
