Arsenal could make a late move for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo in the final days of the January transfer window as a possible replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to a report from Foot Mercato.

The Gunners are still working on offloading Aubameyang. It would appear that they are yet to give up hope on finding a new home for their former captain. It was reported that he had been left out of their squad for the mid-season trip to Dubai.

Mikel Arteta is yet to add a new striker to his ranks in this window – and clearly, time is running out.

Dusan Vlahovic looks to be Juventus-bound. Meanwhile, Alexander Isak is looking set to stay with Real Sociedad, while it is a similar story for Espanyol’s Raul de Tomes.

But Arsenal do appear to have another option on their radar – and it is a player that Tottenham Hotspur were linked with towards the end of last year.

According to Foot Mercato, Arsenal could make a move for Gakpo, with PSV valuing the 22-year-old at £25 million.

Gakpo an exciting option for Arsenal with time running out in January.

The Netherlands international has been in brilliant form this season. He has scored 10 goals and provided 10 assists across the Eredivisie, Europa League and qualifiers for the Champions League.

Only Dusan Tadic has provided more assists in the Dutch top-flight.

It was reported in November that Tottenham had been monitoring Gakpo throughout the season. He actually scored in front of their scouts. Meanwhile, Manchester City have reportedly held talks with the youngster.

But it would now appear that Arsenal are the ones who could make a move in the final hours of the window.

Gakpo would not necessarily fill the striker void at the Emirates. He has tended to play on the left of the three behind the forward this term.

But that is the sort of area Aubameyang would often occupy when he was playing. So he may be one for Arsenal fans to keep an eye on should Aubameyang leave.
