Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp calls up ‘absolutely exceptional’ 19-year-old to Liverpool training

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp put his players through their paces in training on Friday.

The Reds ran out 2-0 winners over Leicester on Thursday, but a quick turnaround in games sees them back in action on Sunday.

Liverpool head to Burnley at the weekend hoping to make it four Premier League wins in a row.

A number of Reds players – those who started against the Foxes – were absent during Friday’s session at Kirkby.

However, there were also several returnees, such as Sadio Mane and Jordan Henderson.

Liverpool gave Mane extra time off to celebrate with Senegal after winning the Africa Cup of Nations, while Henderson is back from a back injury.

Several Reds academy stars were also involved in the session at the AXA Training Centre.

Rhys Williams, Kaide Gordon and Tyler Morton were in training with the first-team.

Morton is enjoying a superb breakthrough season this term, with eight senior Liverpool appearances under his belt.

He, like Gordon, is currently splitting his time between the Under-23s and the first-team.

Neither Morton nor Gordon were in the Liverpool squad against Leicester.

But with such a quick turnaround in games, both could well feature in the matchday contingent against Burnley.

Morton’s last Premier League appearance came against Spurs in December – could he get more minutes this weekend?

“He was fantastic”

Morton’s finest hour this season so far came against AC Milan in the Champions League.

The teenager looked assured against one of the continent’s titans, and completed 38 of his 45 attempted passes.

“I think we should all calm down but it was really good tonight and a big pleasure to watch the boy playing,” Klopp said after that game.

“The football brain he showed tonight was absolutely exceptional.”

Likewise, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher loved what he saw from the academy graduate.

“I thought Tyler Morton was outstanding in midfield,” Carragher told CBS Sports – via Metro – post-match.

“He was fantastic, for a teenage player, playing for Liverpool who are one of the biggest clubs in European football and your home town club, in the San Siro.”
