The two changes likely including Cristiano Ronaldo decision that United wil make against Southampton

Manchester United take on Southampton in Saturday’s early kick-off. Manchester United’s frustrating draw against Burnley in midweek has given manager Ralf Rangnick much to ponder ahead of the visit of Southampton on Saturday. The Saints beat Tottenham in London on Wednesday night, showing they can provide a threat to the league’s biggest clubs away from home. Express Sport takes a look at two changes United can make to put the south coast side to the sword.

David De Gea came under unnecessary criticism for his role in Burnley’s equaliser in midweek.

Poor defending from Harry Maguire afforded Jay Rodriguez all the time in the world to bear down on goal, although De Gea did not narrow the angle as well as he would have liked.

But a superb save from Wout Weghorst just moments later showed everyone just what the United keeper can do.

And as one of United’s star performers this season, it is extremely likely he will keep his place.

Defence: Dalot, Maguire, Varane, Shaw

Maguire came under more questioning from United fans after the draw at Turf Moor.

He was easily turned by Weghorst before failing to catch Rodriguez who finished with aplomb.

But given his role as United’s captain, it is hard to see him not being paired with Raphael Varane against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men.

And after stellar performances in midweek, Diogo Dalot and Luke Shaw are likely to keep their places.

Midfield: Pogba, McTominay, Fernandes

Paul Pogba’s first goal in the Premier League in over a year is likely to see him keep his place in United’s starting XI.

His dominating performance alongside Scott McTominay gave United ample chances against the Clarets, although it only resulted in a draw.

Alongside the duo will be Bruno Fernandes, who has had a tough time in recent weeks.

However, with Jesse Lingard likely to not play again after his failed move away from the club, the Portugal star will be tipped to replicate his superb form against the side from St Mary’s.

Attack: Sancho, Ronaldo, Elanga

Jadon Sancho enjoyed one of his finest games in a United shirt on Tuesday by giving defenders nightmares but was unfortunate to not claim a goal or assist.

Cristiano Ronaldo was rested for the tie in east Lancashire, although Edinson Cavani’s lacklustre performance could see him return to the fore.

He has not played against the Saints since March 2005, although his last two appearances have seen him score against the south coast outfit.

And with Marcus Rashford’s average performance against Sean Dyche’s men, a start for Swedish star Anthony Elanga could well be in order.
