Report: Arsenal now want ‘one of the best strikers in the world’, he could be leaving this summer

Lautaro Martinez could leave Inter Milan in the summer, with Calciomercato reporting that Arsenal are once again interested in the Argentinian forward.

Martinez has enjoyed another impressive campaign with the Nerazzurri. He has scored 11 goals in 22 Serie A appearances as Inter look to defend their Scudetto.

Of course, his role took on greater importance after the club sold Romelu Lukaku. And it would also appear that that deal scuppered his own chances of leaving San Siro.

Reports claimed last summer that Tottenham agreed a £60 million fee for Martinez. Meanwhile, Arsenal were also said to be in the running. However, the striker ultimately ended up staying with Inter.

And he seemed content with that decision. Martinez extended his contract with the club until 2026 in October.

However, questions over his future have started up again. Liverpool were linked before the turn of the year. Jurgen Klopp has previously called him ‘one of the most exciting strikers in the world’.

And Calciomercato is now reporting that Arsenal want Martinez again, along with Manchester City. Martinez meanwhile, could leave Inter in the summer.

Arsenal signing Lautaro Martinez at second attempt would be huge statement

Martinez is an intriguing target in some ways. He has played his best football for Inter as part of a front two. Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, has tended to use one up front.

Interestingly, he has occasionally opted for a system that has utilised two strikers.

Signing Martinez would be a huge statement. Gazzetta dello Sport suggested that his asking price could reach £84 million.

Lionel Messi has previously labelled him ‘spectacular’. So it would certainly be remarkable if Arsenal managed to win the race and secure his signature this summer.

Plenty of Arsenal fans will keep their eye on how he fares against Liverpool in the Champions League tonight.
