Arsenal can follow Manchester City’s transfer blueprint to risk a mega-deal for Joao Felix

Arsenal can replicate the success of Manchester City in the transfer market as they chase the signature of Joao Felix from Atletico Madrid.

According to Spanish news outlet El Chringuito, Arsenal are interested in signing the Portuguese star, and a deal is possible because Diego Simeone wants to replace him with Goncalo Guedes from Valenica.

Felix comes from the Benfica academy that has had a lot of success in the past in terms of their player development, which Manchester City has benefited from.

Mikel Arteta has an excellent chance to follow in Pep Guardiola’s footsteps by doing the same with the signing of Felix, whose stardom was once compared to Kylian Mbappe.

Manchester City’s recent success has been thanks to their imports from the Benfica academy with the signing of players such as Ederson Moraes, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, and most recently Ruben Dias.

Portuguese football expert Tom Kundert touched on how Felix was part of a successful Benfica crop that City have targeted.

Speaking on the MEN’s latest Facebook Live , Kundert said: “Benfica just got this fantastic training academy together and it produced player after player. There are all the ones who went to City, you’ve also got players like Renato Sanches and Joao Felix who sold for huge fees.”

Felix was highly touted by Europe’s biggest clubs after his amazing Europa League run with Benfica during the 2018/2019 season.

It was Atletico Madrid who signed him later in that summer for a blockbuster £114m transfer, as the youngster was tipped to become one of the world’s best players.

However, since joining La Liga side his growth has taken a hit due to a clash in the style of play between him and Simeone, which has not been helped by the delay in injuries.

Despite the differences between the player and the manager, Felix has still displayed glimpses of the quality he can bring when his given the freedom to express himself.

If Arsenal were able to pull off his signing it would be an excellent acquisition, even if he wouldn’t be shoe fit into Arteta’s side.

He is equipped with the ability where you can shape a team around him, and the squad would reap the benefits from doing so.

Arsenal could certainly replicate Manchester City’s success with the signing of Felix, and if a transfer is available then Edu should do what it takes to get a deal over the line.
