Chelsea are reportedly close to reaching the contract demands of their player Antonio Rudiger, but the future of teammate Andreas Christensen is likely to be away from Stamford Bridge.

According to the Sunday World, the Blues are prepared to make an offer that’s “close” to the wishes of popular defender Rudiger.

It is explained that both parties are now hopeful an agreement can be reached for a new deal after a long saga that’s left Chelsea supporters very anxious.

However, the report adds Blues centre-back Christensen is likely to leave on a free transfer this summer when his contract runs out.

It’s a nail-biting time at the Bridge because senior defenders Rudiger, Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are all on contracts that expire at the end of this season.

There is at least some positive news regarding 28-year-old powerhouse Rudiger.

Rudiger has to be Chelsea priority

Of course, keeping Christensen and Azpilicueta beyond this campaign should be the aim.

They are both brilliant Chelsea servants, especially club captain Azpilicueta, that still offer so much to Thomas Tuchel’s XI.

Rudiger is the pick of the trio, though.

It’s going to be colossal news if the club can get a deal over the line for a Germany international that’s played like a man possessed under Tuchel.

He’s in the prime of his career playing some exquisite football, so fully deserves a rewarding salary to match. A club-record fee for a defender of £170,000-a-week is reportedly on the table for Rudiger.
