Antonio Conte comments on Roman Abramovich selling Chelsea

The main story concerning the Premier League is the pending sale of Chelsea FC following the decision of owner Roman Abramovich.

The Russian billionaire is trying to sell some of his London investments ahead of possible sanctions from the United States, United Kingdom, and European Union following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Ahead of Tottenham’s matchup against Everton, the English football media decided to ask Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte during his news conference about his former boss’ decision to sell Chelsea.

Conte stated that it’s not good news for Spurs’ London rival, considering the number of trophies The Blues have won, including the 2016–17 Premier League title with the Italian tactician.

“My reaction it’s very strange. He was the owner for many years and Chelsea, in this period, they won a lot of trophies. For sure, it was an amazing period of Abramovich for Chelsea,” Conte said, per Football.London.

“Now I’m listening that he wants to sell the club. For sure, it’s not good news for Chelsea fans, especially for what he did in this period that he was the owner.”

Chelsea is part of the assets Abramovich wants to sell. The soon-to-be owner of The Blues also wants to offload his properties, one that’s located in Kensington Palace Gardens — nicknamed “billionaires’ row” and the other is his penthouse at Chelsea Waterfront on the River Thames.

Abramovich’s name hasn’t emerged among lists of high-profile Russians facing economic sanctions. Still, he’s said to be a backer of President Vladimir Putin and is one of Russia’s wealthiest people.
