Whoever emerges victorious from Manchester City v Liverpool on Sunday will win the Premier League, says Michail Antonio
It is without question the biggest Premier League match of the season and the winner is destined to go on and become eventual champions, according to Michail Antonio.
With mid-week Champions League action taken care of, Liverpool now turns their attention back to the Premier League with a trip to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, where they will face Manchester City knowing that a victory will send the Reds to the top of the Premier League table and tip the title firmly in their balance.
Just a point is keeping Jurgen Klopp’s men off the summit and West Ham striker Antonio is in no doubt that whoever comes out on top in this titanic contest is on the path to glory.
Discussing the game with Newcastle United forward Callum Wilson on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, he said: “I think it’s the title decider, whoever wins this game wins the league, do you agree or disagree? I honestly feel it’s a six-pointer for either team. We have to play City at home as well. We’re going to have our part to play, as we need to win that game.
“But either of them winning that will get them raring to go for the season. That means one person will be three points ahead and at least two games before the next person go above them, so it will be very difficult with there only being seven games left. The quality that they both have, for them to lose two games, I wouldn’t say it’s impossible, but it’s going to be very hard.”
Sharing his own viewpoint, Wilson quipped: “I agree, but I also would say we have to play both of them, so Newcastle will play a part! Nah, I’m joking, I’m joking.”
Liverpool has only lost two league matches all season, while Pep Guardiola’s side has lost on three occasions. The Reds can still finish the season with a maximum of 96 points, while City can reach a high of 97. Both sides warmed up for Sunday’s blockbuster with Champions League victories against Benfica (Liverpool) and Atletico Madrid (City).
