THIERRY HENRY SENDS BLUNT LIVERPOOL MESSAGE AFTER WIN OVER VILLARREAL

Thierry Henry has claimed that Liverpool was ‘lucky’ to get off the mark during their 2-0 win over Villarreal in the Champions League semi-finals on Wednesday night.

The legendary striker said the opening goal, which goes down as a Pervis Estupinan own goal was ‘lucky’, and before that Liverpool ‘wasn’t showing a lot, as he told CBS Sports (27/04/22 at 9:50 pm).

In the first half, as expected, Unai Emery’s side made life very difficult for the quadruple-chasing side and they went into the break goalless.

But, in the second, Liverpool picked up the tempo and started getting closer to Villarreal’s box, including Jordan Henderson’s cross deflecting off Estupinan and looping over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli.

That’s when the floodgates opened and the Premier League side showcased their might, and in truth, probably should have added a third.

But, it seems as though Henry wasn’t too impressed by what the Reds were producing prior to their fortunate opener.

“If you look at the game, I think a lucky goal bailed them out, for me,” said Henry. “I think they would have knocked on the door, if not all night.

“It’s a lucky goal, the own goal of Villarreal is a lucky goal and I think, before that, they weren’t showing a lot.

“But, along the way, I would say, when you are going for the quadruple, then you need to have that luck. And, after that, there is nothing about luck.”

No matter how they come, Jurgen Klopp’s side is on the front foot and should now book their final ticket to Paris.

There has been a lot of talk about this team securing multiple trophies this term.

But, the closer they get, the more it comes believable, as another big week awaits the Merseyside giants.

By this time next week, Liverpool could well be in the Champions League final and only two wins away from a treble – Champions League and FA Cup added with the League Cup.

So, whatever may or may not happen, this team is seriously pushing the boat out when getting their pens out for the history books.
