Last night, one ‘incredible’ Liverpool player made history that not even Steven Gerrard could match.

Jordan Henderson lifted the FA Cup as Liverpool captain last night. The midfielder made Anfield history in doing so.

You can officially add the FA Cup to Jordan Henderson’s trophy collection at Liverpool. The skipper helped the team beat Chelsea at Wembley last night, ten years on from their last FA Cup final.

Henderson actually played in that game, again against Chelsea. The Reds lost 2-1 and it’s taken a full decade for a second shot at the trophy. It’s not exactly a surprise to learn that he’s the only remaining player from either team.

What a decade it’s been for Henderson, too. He’s since seen Kenny Dalglish depart as manager, Brendan Rodgers nearly win the title, Steven Gerrard leave the club and Jurgen Klopp transform the side into the world’s best.

He’s also lifted the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, Premier League, EFL Cup, and now FA Cup above his head as Liverpool captain. And with that comes a new record at the club.

No other Liverpool captain has lifted as many different trophies as Jordan Henderson. That’s now six and while some have hoisted more total, they’ve repeated a few. The current captain is the first to lift a unique six.

We can firmly say that Henderson’s spell as captain is up there with any other Liverpool great. Emlyn Hughes, Phil Thompson, Graeme Souness, and Steven Gerrard have all achieved remarkable things and Henderson is right there with them.

The midfielder will look to equal a bit of history in two weeks, too. Henderson will lead Liverpool out against Real Madrid in the Champions League final and victory would make him the second Red to lift the trophy twice. Hughes was the first, of course.

For the ‘super’ Henderson, in the words of Klopp, it would raise him even higher in the pantheon of Liverpool greats.
