Spurs’ efforts to sign a 27-year-old Barcelona defender are strengthened

Since AS Roma cooled their interest in Clement Lenglet, Tottenham’s chances of acquiring the defender have increased. This is because Barcelona is eager to see the defender leave.

Tottenham may emerge as the front-runners to recruit Clement Lenglet this summer, according to Corriere dello Sport, as reported by SPORT, with a loan move for the defender set to become a significant possibility. Even though Barcelona is eager to get the Frenchman’s salary off their books, the north London team’s chances of getting him have increased after AS Roma withdrew from the race.

Tottenham has been to Barcelona in search of a new central defender, with Clement Lenglet emerging as a potential target. Since the end of the previous campaign, the north London club has been looking for a left-footed center-back. Now that it is evident that their top target, Alessandro Bastoni, will not leave Inter Milan, they may try to recruit the Frenchman on loan from Barcelona.

Despite the fact that the agreement is complicated, the 27-year-old has a wealth of experience. Clubs are struggling with the Frenchman’s big pay as they object to the figures. Roma had expressed interest in the defender but has now given up after being unable to reach a financial agreement.

Barcelona is having trouble adding new players since FFP regulations are getting in the way of their development. Because they plan to add to their army this summer, the Catalans are anxious to get Lenglet’s pay off their books. Lenglet is an example of how Barcelona is finding it challenging to let go of undesired players due to hefty salaries.

Tottenham’s chances have improved now that Roma has dropped out of the battle for Lenglet because Antonio Conte is still looking to add a center defender. The Italian boss is desperate to add talent ahead of their season in the Champions League, and the Frenchman’s expertise at the highest level may have piqued Spurs’ attention.

Tottenham has expressed interest in Inter Milan player Bastoni, but the Italian star might not be available during this transfer season. As a result, they began to concentrate on the 27-year-old Frenchman while negotiating a loan. Lenglet needs to be sold by Barcelona, even if it is on loan. The center-back is not in manager Xavi Hernandez’s plans and is not popular at the club

Instead, Jules Kounde from Sevilla will be acquired by Barcelona, with Chelsea also interested. However, the Blaugrana won’t be able to sign players like the Frenchman until they remove players and settle wages.

Tottenham might be able to save Lenglet, however the north London club might prefer that Barcelona cover some of his hefty salaries. The 27-year-old is currently free to leave, and it is unknown where he will wind up.
