Despite telling Arteta he wants to go, Arsenal summons the 27-year-old to return to London.

According to El Desmarque, Arsenal have ‘summoned’ Hector Bellerin to London Colney for the start of pre-season training.

The Spaniard joined Real Betis on loan last summer and spent a hugely successful year there. He played 32 times in all competitions and registered five assists, including one in the Copa del Rey final to help the Beticos lift their first trophy in 17 long years.

Betis absolutely love Bellerin and it has been revealed that he wants to join them on a permanent deal this summer. Atletico Madrid are also reportedly trying to sign him, as Diego Simeone eyes a replacement for Šime Vrsaljko, who is on his way to Greece to join Olympiacos.

Arsenal fans believed they weren’t going to see Bellerin return to North London again, but it’s not goodbye just yet.

Arsenal summon Hector Bellerin to return to London Colney

Bellerin joined Arsenal as a teenager from Barcelona’s youth side all the way back in 2011. He impressed everyone at the club and quickly caught Arsene Wenger’s eye as well, who gave him his senior debut.

Bellerin played over 200 times for Arsenal during his time at the Emirates and won three FA Cups. He was viewed as a leader by both Unai Emery and Mikel Arteta, but he just wanted a change last summer.

After a successful spell away on loan, Bellerin wants to head back to Spain, and it has been claimed that the Gunners are willing to let him go – but only if their demands are met.

Until then, he’s just like every other Arsenal player, and Arteta has summoned him back to North London to undergo medical tests for the start of pre-season – even though he has directly told the Gunners he wants to leave permanently this summer.

It’s understandable why Bellerin wants to leave Arsenal this summer.

The 27-year-old has just one year left on his contract, and even though he is a quality player in his own right, he’s not getting ahead of Japan international Takehiro Tomiyasu at the Emirates.

A return to Spain, either to Betis or to Atletico Madrid, where he would improve massively under Diego Simeone, would be excellent for Bellerin, but whether the two sides can meet Arsenal’s demands remains to be seen.

Arsenal’s pre-season began today and Bellerin was spotted training with the first team.
