Man City have identified a replacement for Chelsea target Raheem Sterling in the Man United hijacking.

If Raheem Sterling leaves Manchester City, Manchester City could outbid Manchester United for a summer transfer target.

If Raheem Sterling joins Chelsea, Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Bayern Munich star Serge Gnabry. Manchester United is also said to be interested, but City may be a more appealing option for the Germany star.

Gnabry’s contract at Bayern Munich expires in less than a year. He has turned down all renewal offers and will be fired if he does not sign a new contract.

Chelsea are getting closer to signing Sterling, who is also in the final year of his contract with the club. And if he does leave, City will look to replace him.

According to the Sun, if Sterling moves to Stamford Bridge, Gnabry will be at the top of Pep Guardiola’s wishlist. Due to his contract situation, Bayern would be willing to sell the former Arsenal ace for £35 million.

Gnabry’s situation is also being monitored by United. However, City’s interest could be a major stumbling block in their efforts to close a deal.

City will compete in the Champions League next season, something United will not be able to do. Guardiola’s team has also been a consistent trophy winner in recent years, with United’s most recent silverware coming in 2017.

Gnabry has had Champions League success with Bayern, winning the competition two seasons ago. That is likely to play a significant role in his decision to join his next club.

City would most likely only pursue Gnabry if Sterling left. They have already signed Erling Haaland this summer, and Julian Alvarez will join the team in January after agreeing to terms.

Gabriel Jesus has left and will be announced as a new Arsenal player soon. Because of his versatility to play across the frontline, Gnabry could help fill the void left by both Jesus and Sterling.

Meanwhile, United have yet to make a single signing under new manager Erik ten Hag. Tyrell Malacia of Feyenoord looks set to be the first signing after impressing Ten Hag in the Eredivisie.

Ten Hag is also hoping to outbid Arsenal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez. However, the club was rocked on Saturday by the news that Cristiano Ronaldo wishes to leave in this transfer window.

Gnabry’s arrival could help soften the blow of Ronaldo’s departure, as the German has a strong goal record as a winger in recent seasons. But if City are also keen, that could scupper United’s chances of luring him to the club.
