£22m Tottenham man Conte is yet to use sends message ahead of Marseille game

As Tottenham Hotspur prepare to open their account for the 2022/23 Champions League campaign against Marseille on Wednesday night, Bryan Gil posted on his Instagram story that he is ready.’

The 21-year-old has yet to make an appearance for Antonio Conte this season after a move to Valencia appeared to fall through on transfer deadline day.

According to the player’s most recent Instagram story, ‘Ready for the Champions League,’ with him standing next to Davinson Sanchez and Ivan Perisic, he appears to be part of tonight’s squad.

Last season, Gil was loaned out by Conte during the January transfer window and he enjoyed a fruitful spell in the colors of Valencia.

But that didn’t land him front and center of Conte’s thoughts during pre-season, who was probably happy to see him leave in the summer because he hasn’t used him so far.

Either way, with games now coming thick and fast for Spurs, the Spanish winger might just get his wish, with the north London side taking on Manchester City at the weekend, before traveling to Portugal to play Sporting Lisbon next week.

HOW FAR CAN TOTTENHAM GO IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE?

Tottenham did taste Champions League heartache a number of years ago when they were beaten by Liverpool in the final in Madrid.

English teams have faired pretty well in Europe over the years, whether it’s winning the competition as a whole – Chelsea, and Liverpool – or going pretty deep into the tournament.

A lot of that is to do with the investment that English teams make in the market, with Premier League teams spending nearly £2bn this summer, a record-breaking amount.

Spurs were one of the big spenders, forking out £100 million+ on players, including their record-breaking signing Richarlison, who started their 2-1 win over Fulham over the weekend and might just keep his place in the XI tonight.
