Tottenham Hotspur legend Glenn Hoddle advises Antonio Conte on how to win the Champions League.
Glenn Hoddle, a Tottenham Hotspur legend, has advised manager Antonio Conte to stay longer at clubs if he wants to win the UEFA Champions League.
Hoddle stated on BT Sport with Owen Hargreaves and Peter Crouch that Conte switches clubs at an alarming rate. He is also not incorrect.
Starting his career as a senior manager in 2006, Conte managed Arezzo in 2006 and then 2007, before taking up the role at Bari in 2007. He then left them in 2009 for Atalanta.
He managed the Bergamo-based side for one year and was Siena’s manager for a solitary season as well. Then, he became the manager of Juventus in 2011 and managed them for three years before becoming Italy’s manager from 2014 to 2016.
Hoddle makes a good point
Conte was instated as Chelsea boss in 2016 and left them in 2018. Conte took over the managerial helm at Inter Milan in 2019 and then took up the role as Tottenham Hotspur’s new manager last year.
According to Hoddle, who won the FA Cup twice with Spurs during his playing days, Conte needs a little stability so that he can form a side capable of going all the way and winning the UCL.
“Well, if I’m really honest, he has to stay at a club for a little bit longer to build something and win the Champions League. That is the creme de la creme in Europe and it doesn’t happen overnight.”
Hoddle then praised Conte for improving this Spurs squad by implementing his tactics and making new signings. His comments cannot be faulted.
It would be unreasonable to expect Spurs to win the Champions League this season, however possible it may seem to some fans. Spurs must make UCL their home – play in it for consecutive seasons – and then, we can expect our team to go into the competition as one of the favorites.
Conte, who has won a league title with Juve, Chelsea, and Inter, is yet to reach the semi-final stage of the competition in his managerial career despite winning the competition as a player in 1996.
His current contract at Spurs expires in the summer of 2023. Hopefully, he pays heed to Hoddle’s advice and extends his stay here.
