Tottenham’s £4 million man, according to Ledley King, has suddenly become a’real top-class’ player.

Tottenham Hotspur legend Ledley King has praised Eric Dier for his outstanding start to the new season.

The 28-year-old Englishman, who joined Spurs for £4 million in 2014 (BBC), has faced a barrage of criticism in recent years. However, he has been outstanding recently and is now in contention to rejoin the England squad.

Tottenham legend Ledley King praises ‘real top-class center-half Eric Dier

King is one of the greatest players to ever play for Tottenham, and he knows a thing or two about being a defender.

The now-41-year-old was a part of Spurs’ coaching staff when Jose Mourinho was at the helm. He worked closely with Dier then, and he’s blown away by how good the Tottenham number 15 has been this term.

King told The Daily Mail: “I told him (Dier) playing in midfield would make him a better defender when he made the move. You see the game is a lot easier.

“As someone who played a fair bit in midfield myself, I know that from center-half you are facing the game and you have a lot more time. In terms of him on the ball, his use of the ball, knowing when to push into midfield and what you’re leaving behind when you’re doing that, closing people down, all these little things are things you have to learn.

“That comes with experience, learning all the tricks. But having played in midfield, gives you a different feeling with players running from midfield.

“I felt the game became a lot easier, and Eric will feel that as well. I am really delighted he’s showing his true form and looking like a real top-class center-half.”

Dier has always been a good player, but one of his biggest problems over the years has been the lack of clarity over his best position.

The Englishman can play in the middle of the park and in central defense. He has the physique and quality on the ball to play as a number six, but we must say, he’s much better at the back.

Since Conte’s arrival last year, Dier’s game has improved massively. He barely makes silly mistakes like he used to, and the way he reads the game now is completely different from how he would 12 months or so ago.

Dier has been phenomenal this season, and he completely deserves a chance with England now.
