Brendan Rodgers has already told Nice his Kasper Schmeichel stance amid surprise transfer claim

The latest Leicester City news as there has been speculation about the goalkeeper’s future following a summer departure from the King Power Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers praised Kasper Schmeichel after his departure from Leicester City was confirmed in the summer.

Back in August, just days before the start of the Premier League, the club captain completed a surprise move to French club OGC Nice. It marked the end of an 11-year stint with the club during which the goalkeeper won the Premier League title, and the FA Cup, and played in Europe.

He signed a three-year contract with Nice, but according to reports in France, the goalkeeper’s time with the Ligue 1 club could end after only six months, with a January move possible. It has prompted City fans to demand that the club legend return to Filbert Way.

Nice has since dismissed the claim, claiming that the player needs more time to adjust after spending so much time at City. He was also named to the starting lineup for Sunday’s Ligue 1 match against Troyes.

There’s no denying Schmeichel is highly regarded at City, with Rodgers making his feelings about the goalkeeper clear after the deal was approved in the summer. The City manager admitted that he would be missed by the club.

“He’s a true Club icon,” Rodgers said back in August. “He was one of the figures mentioned when I arrived… that senior group of players who were extremely powerful and important to the club He was precisely that.

“On the pitch, he’s a colossal player who played 479 games. He’s been a part of the great success here for over 10-11 years.

“He’s a real real good guy off the field and I don’t say that lightly. His passion, determination… living with the name ‘Schmeichel’ was always going to be hard for any player. He made a name for himself with how good he was.”

“I will miss him, the players will miss him. He’s gone on a new adventure with his family now. It’s a three-year deal, a new project and I’m sure he’ll really enjoy the experience.”

If a return to City in the January window is possible is still to be seen. But if Rodgers’ comments are anything to go by, then he would be welcomed back to the club with open arms.
