The reason why Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is not worried about relegation despite poor start

The latest Leicester City news as there has been speculation about the goalkeeper’s future following a summer departure from the King Power Stadium.

Brendan Rodgers praised Kasper Schmeichel after his departure from Leicester City was confirmed in the summer.

Back in August, just days before the start of the Premier League, the club captain completed a surprise move to French club OGC Nice. It marked the end of an 11-year stint with the club during which the goalkeeper won the Premier League title, and the FA Cup, and played in Europe.

He signed a three-year contract with Nice, but according to reports in France, the goalkeeper’s time with the Ligue 1 club could end after only six months, with a January move possible. It has prompted City fans to demand that the club legend return to Filbert Way.

Nice subsequently dismissed the claim, saying that the player needs longer to adapt at City after such a long time. He was drafted back into the starting XI for the Ligue 1 game vs Troyes on Sunday afternoon.

There’s no doubt that Schmeichel is highly thought of at City, with Rodgers making his stance on the goalkeeper clear after the transfer was sanctioned in the summer. The City boss admitted that the club would miss him.

“He’s a true icon of the Club,” Rodgers said back in August. “When I came in, he was one of the figures mentioned… that senior group of players who were very strong and important to the Club. He was precisely that.

“On the pitch, he’s a colossal player who played 479 games. He’s been a part of the great success here for over 10-11 years.

“He’s a real real good guy off the field and I don’t say that lightly. His passion, determination… living with the name ‘Schmeichel’ was always going to be hard for any player. He made a name for himself with how good he was.”

“I will miss him, the players will miss him. He’s gone on a new adventure with his family now. It’s a three-year deal, a new project and I’m sure he’ll really enjoy the experience.”

If a return to City in the January window is possible is still to be seen. But if Rodgers’ comments are anything to go by, then he would be welcomed back to the club with open arms.
