Manchester United dealt fresh injury concern ahead of Newcastle United tie – five ruled out

Manchester United will play Omonia Nicosia in the Europa League before facing Newcastle United.

Manchester United forward Anthony Martial will be evaluated further ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match against Newcastle United after being ruled out of the Europa League night against Omonia Nicosia.

The 26-year-old made his first Red Devils start in over a year last Sunday against Everton, but was forced to leave after 29 minutes due to his third injury in as many months.

Erik ten Hag, when asked for an update, said, “Not today, we’ll see how it develops until Sunday.”

He added: “I have had several talks with him about that. It’s disappointing for him.

“I think for the quality, in all the minutes he played he did very well, even on Sunday. He played well. Good assist for Antony for the first goal and also in the pressing he was very good and I think he was an important factor in we play that well in the first half.

“But obviously he fell out and that’s a disappointment for him and the team as well.”

That could see Cristiano Ronaldo handed only his second Premier League start of the campaign after scoring his 700th career goal at Goodison Park last time out.

Ten Hag is already without Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek and Brandon Williams, while Scott McTominany is banned for the visit of Newcastle after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season.
