Leicester City 0-0 Crystal Palace: three things Foxes of Leicester learnt

On Saturday afternoon, Leicester City drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium.

The point lifted Leicester City from the bottom of the Premier League table to 19th place, level on points (five) with Nottingham Forest, but ahead due to a minus nine goal difference, compared to -15 for Forest, who lost 1-0 to Wolves on Saturday afternoon.

12th place Crystal Palace was looking for another win to add to their second triumph of the season against Leeds on Sunday 9th October. The city was still searching for a way to end their poor run of form, after only winning one game so far against local rivals, Nottingham Forest.

Fans’ thoughts on Brendan Rodgers

Speaking to a couple of fans before the game, it became clear that all of them were in agreement that they want Brendan gone:

One Leicester City fan said, “I don’t want to see the guy leave, especially after he won us the FA Cup – but his time is up. ”Also fans turning on Top I think is wrong, people don’t realise his business (King Power) is suffering from covid”.

“I can’t believe it’s been a year since we conceded six goals against Chelsea and there were doubts about his job then, now look at us”.

Following another game without a win, time will tell for Brendan Rodgers’ position. Nevertheless, for the majority of Foxes fans, his time is up.

Leicester City goalkeeper and defense

Overall, the back four were defensively sound and played a lot better than they have done in the last few weeks whilst also keeping a clean sheet.

Danny Ward played better than fans have seen as of late, he made the right decision by staying on his line during an attack from Palace which forced the player to pass it rather than being able to take the shot and put the ball over the Welshman. He also made a really good save in the last half an hour of the second half, Odsonne Edouard shoots from the edge of the box through a group of defenders, so Ward doesn’t see it until late on but dives low to force it wide. However, he also didn’t have a lot to save because his defense did a good job of securing it up at the back.

Wout Faes again looked strong and composed in one-on-one situations but also around the pitch and making those all-important tackles. Daniel Amartey made a few mistakes at times playing with the ball at his feet and allowing the Eagles to take the ball off him and go through on goal, luckily the attempt was poor.

Another mistake came when the Ghanaian didn’t take a second look before playing the ball back to Danny Ward and putting him under pressure from a Palace player. James Justin and Timothy Castagne played well and linked up nicely with their triangles on the wings.

James Maddison and Patson Daka linkup

It’s unfortunate that James Maddison will miss out against Leeds on Thursday evening after being booked for a simulation on Saturday afternoon. He and Patson Daka played well together all game, early into the second half Maddison supplied Daka with the ball to get him through on goal, and shot on target, keeper saves and parries it out but the linesman flagged it for offside.

The Zambian international had some good chances, in the first half he made it through on goal against two men but there were no Leicester players racing to get up with him leaving him with no one in the box. Next up, Leicester faces 15th-place Leeds United at home on Thursday evening before traveling to 17th-place Wolves on Sunday for a 2 pm kickoff. That makes two so-called ‘six-pointers’ there.
