Report: ‘World-class’ manager thinks Conte will leave Tottenham soon, he wants to replace him

According to a report from 90min, Mauricio Pochettino is eager to return as Tottenham Hotspur’s manager despite rumors linking him to Steven Gerrard’s position at Aston Villa.

Since being fired by Paris Saint-Germain in July, Pochettino has remained jobless. He is a successful manager, and his return is simply a question of time, but Villa Park doesn’t appear to be his current ideal location.

Mauricio Pochettino wants to return as Tottenham manager amid Aston Villa links

The Telegraph reported yesterday that Aston Villa will target Pochettino to replace Gerrard.

The legendary Englishman’s plans haven’t come to fruition so far, with Villa stuck in 16th in the Premier League table after 10 games. Many fans want Gerrard gone and would welcome Pochettino with open arms.

However, the Argentine, branded as ‘world class’ by Jame O’Hara, reportedly does not fancy the Villa job at this moment in time and has his eye on a return to North London to become Tottenham’s next manager.

The report claims that Pochetiino thinks the Spurs job will be vacant soon with Antonio Conte’s contract expiring at the end of this Premier League season.

Tottenham fans are desperate for the Italian to extend his deal, but the report claims that Pochettino is holding out for a call from Daniel Levy to replace Conte if he does leave the club.

Aston Villa, as a result, are an unlikely option, but the report claims that Pochettino’s representatives will listen to the Birmingham club’s offer should one arrive.

There is no denying that Pochettino is a top manager.

Although the Argentine was frequently made fun of for failing to bring home a trophy during his time at Tottenham, the work he accomplished in North London is a major factor in why Spurs are now one of the best teams in the nation.

When it comes to Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, for example, his work with them elevated them to a whole new level, therefore Villa are completely correct to want him if they’re planning for life without Gerrard.

But rather than going into a more challenging position right now, he may wait for Tottenham if he’s sure Conte won’t stay there through the end of this season.
