Despite injuries in the forward areas, Tottenham manager Antonio Conte does not appear to see Bryan Gil as a viable option.

Conte told his press conference ahead of the weekend match against Newcastle that he does not have many attacking options.

He joked about having to play himself but didn’t mention Gil, who was on the Spurs bench at Old Trafford on Wednesday but didn’t play.

Conte’s comments are not good news for Gil

Conte said: “We have a Kulusevski injury and Richarlison.

“Lucas is not ready to start and then for sure, this type of situation creates a big difficulty.

“We have this moment Harry and Sonny in good health. (Laughs) Fingers crossed, I hope to continue otherwise I have to put on the shoes to play!”

It seems Conte does rate Gil as a player but has huge reservations over his physicality and ability to deal with the demands of the Premier League.

£22 million man Gil could have left in the summer but it appears Spurs did not want to sanction that until they got an upgrade in.

They didn’t manage to do that and it seems likely the situation will be revisited in January unless plenty changes between now and then.
