Man City get double injury boost as 21-man squad for Borussia Dortmund fixture in Champions League confirmed

Manchester City has traveled to Germany with a 21-man squad to face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League on Tuesday.

John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are both fit enough to play for Manchester City against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.

The city has named a squad of 21 players to travel to Signal Iduna Park for the Champions League Group G match, with Stones included ahead of a potential return from injury after missing the last month with a hamstring problem.

Laporte made his first Premier League start of the season on Saturday but picked up a knock late on and looked in some discomfort. Pep Guardiola said after the game that Laporte still needs his fitness managed, however, he trained on Monday morning in Manchester and was part of the group that flew to Germany later in the afternoon.

Sergio Gomez was not in the squad as he will serve a one-match suspension following his red card against Copenhagen last time out, with young full-backs Rico Lewis and Josh Wilson-Esbrand in the squad to provide full-back cover. Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, or Stones could step in as alternative full-backs in Gomez’s absence.

Kalvin Phillips was a welcome face back in training on Monday, although he was working separately from the main group with a coach, predominantly doing fitness drills as well as some passing exercises. He is not part of the traveling squad, but his return to some form of training suggests he is on course for his recovery from a shoulder injury.

Kyle Walker is the only player now not in training, although he indicated last week he is optimistic over his own recovery from surgery as both he and Phillips look to return in time to make England’s World Cup squad. Youngster Alexander Robertson was another face in training on Monday, although he is not on City’s UEFA ‘B List’ for their Champions League squad, and has not traveled to Dortmund.

Man City traveling squad to Dortmund: Dias, Stones, Ake, Cancelo, Gundogan, Haaland, Grealish, Laporte, Rodri, De Bruyne, Ortega, Alvarez, Bernardo, Akanji, Mahrez, Ederson, Carson, Foden, Palmer, Lewis, Wilson-Esbrand
