Michael Carrick, one of four Manchester United players, could join Middlesbrough on loan.

Michael Carrick has taken his first managerial position since leaving Manchester United, taking the vacant position at Middlesbrough.

The former Manchester United midfielder worked as a coach for the Red Devils under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

He then took over as interim manager, going unbeaten in three games, winning two and drawing one against Villarreal, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Now he has a chance to compete in the Championship with 21st-place Middlesbrough, and he may look to Manchester United for loan deals to bolster his squad.

Teden Mengi

Teden Mengi has been on loan twice in the Championship already with Derby County and Birmingham City and has seen his spells cut short by injury each time.

He needs a bit of good fortune, as the 20-year-old center-back has proven he is good enough to play in England’s second tier.

Now fit again and playing for the under-21s after recovering from injury, Mengi needs a loan move, and adding Mengi in to strengthen Boro’s defence is an obvious call Michael Carrick could make.

Brandon Williams

A headline-grabbing move could see Carrick pursue a deal for Manchester United full-back Brandon Williams in January.

Williams was loaned to Norwich in the Premier League last season, only to suffer relegation and then see injury set his progress back.

He is now training again ahead of a potential January move, and Carrick may be able to persuade him to drop into the Championship.

Williams made 50 appearances for United at a time Carrick was on the coaching staff, and if Williams is not in Erik ten Hag’s plans, this could be a move that tempts him.

Joe Hugill

Middlesbrough will want to sign a goalscorer to add to a side that has scored just 19 goals in 16 league games.

Carrick could take a gamble on Manchester United teenager Joe Hugill, 19, who needs to be tested at the first-team level.

The gangly striker was signed from north-east club Sunderland and he could settle well on a short-term basis at Boro.

Hugill has 36 goals at the academy level for United but isn’t quite ready for the first team. He could change opinions with a successful spell in the Championship.

Charlie Savage

If Manchester United wants a player to learn a lot under Michael Carrick then it would make the most sense to send him a promising central midfielder.

Step up Charlie Savage, who impressed in pre-season and was close to a loan move. He isn’t quite close enough to first-team football yet, and Zidane Iqbal is in front of him, so a loan move would be smart.

Savage would benefit from playing competitive first-team football. He is a strong passer who could really benefit from Carrick’s short-term tutelage.

This particular loan deal could be a perfect match for both clubs, players, and managers.
