Pep Guardiola says a Manchester City player is “fit enough to start” against Leicester.

Ederson was an unused substitute in Manchester City’s 0-0 draw with Borussia Dortmund, sitting on the bench while Stefan Ortega made his full debut in goal, but Pep Guardiola confirmed that the Brazilian international will return for Saturday’s Premier League match against Leicester City.

Ederson has been City’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, but he may have missed Tuesday’s Champions League match due to fitness issues, according to the club’s official website. However, Guardiola has stated that the 29-year-old is ‘fit enough to start against the Foxes.

According to the injury report, ‘the boss confirmed’ in Friday’s pre-match press conference that Ederson would play at the King Power Stadium, so Ortega will be relegated to the bench. The 29-year-old impressed and kept a clean sheet against Dortmund, so he can at least hold his head high.

Ederson will have a lot to prove on Saturday, as he is conceding more goals (11) than expected (7.4) and has the lowest save percentage (58.3%) from shots on target faced in the Premier League. This season, he has made 16 appearances across all competitions, conceding 15 goals while keeping eight clean sheets.

The Brazilian international joined City from Benfica in 2017 and has gone on to make 257 appearances across the board, conceding 199 goals with 128 clean sheets. Ederson has been a fantastic servant for the Sky Blues but needs to silence some critics this weekend.
