Manchester City could reportedly be set to land another major blow on Liverpool

Manchester City may end up dealing a major blow to Liverpool in the transfer market after Pep Guardiola’s side recently held talks with Jurgen Klopp’s top target.

According to the Daily Mail, the Sky Blues are getting closer to signing Borussia Dortmund midfielder, Jude Bellingham.

The two clubs’ relationship is said to be very strong after Erling Haaland agreed to join the Premier League champions earlier this year.

Although the summer may be too soon, with the World Cup potentially raising his price tag, Man City is hopeful of signing the 19-year-old in the near future, rather than waiting for him to see out his contract in Germany.

The city could hand Liverpool a major transfer blow

With Fenway Sports Group at the helm, activity in the transfer market has been sparse in recent years for the Reds.

For months and months now, it has been evident Liverpool needs an additional midfielder to be added to Klopp’s ranks.

Currently, the quality in depth just isn’t there, and there are a few players arguably past their best who play week-in and week-out. This includes the likes of James Milner and Jordan Henderson, who have seriously struggled at times this season.

Having been heavily linked with a move for Bellingham in recent transfer windows, the fact that FSG decided to wait until next summer to sign a midfielder really annoyed a large group of Liverpool fans.

Although the Bundesliga club would not allow his departure any sooner, it was imperative for the Reds to secure an additional central player this summer.

The arrival of just Bellingham won’t solve Liverpool’s issues; the club needs a major overhaul of Klopp’s squad – including the midfield.

However, with news of Anfield’s number one transfer target now more likely to join Premier League rivals Man City, this is a devastating blow for the Reds’ long-term project.
