Tottenham is interested in Weston McKennie, and it is now believed that Juventus is willing to let him leave during the January transfer window.
Rodrigo Bentancur, who joined Spurs from Juventus in January, has blossomed into a top midfielder.
Bentancur has formed a strong partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in midfield, making it difficult for Yves Bissouma to nail down a starting role.
What’s interesting though is that Bentancur allegedly wasn’t Tottenham’s top midfield target back in January – and not even the top choice from Juventus.
Alasdair Gold – one of the most reliable Tottenham sources around – claimed that Paratici had Weston McKennie above Bentancur on his January wish list.
CBS Sports reporter Ben Jacobs reported last month that Tottenham is still weighing up a January deal for McKennie but he did meet with Paratici over a January 2022 move.
It’s clear that Tottenham like McKennie and the American may end up following Bentancur to North London after all.
Tuttomercatoweb claim that Juventus are ready to axe a senior midfielder and it McKennie is named as a strong possibility.
Youngsters Fabio Miretti and Nicolo Fagioli have emerged as promising talents and Juventus want to clear the path for them to shine.
Adrien Rabiot is another candidate to leave but it’s stated that Tottenham has liked McKennie for a long time and the door is now open for a January move.
Fabio Paratici brought McKennie to Juventus from Schalke and would fancy a reunion at Tottenham.
It’s noted that there has already been an offer from Tottenham though it’s unclear whether the report means for this coming January or last January.
McKennie, 24, will feature for the United States at the World Cup, where Tottenham will be able to see him in action against Premier League midfielders such as Declan Rice and Mason Mount.
A hard-working midfielder who can go from box to box, McKennie has played over 1000 minutes for Juventus this season but is seemingly available.
It’s now up to Paratici to decide whether to reunite McKennie and Bentancur or put Tottenham’s funds into other areas in January.
