‘Appreciated by Tottenham’: Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham really like 29-year-old

Fabrizio Romano discussed Tottenham Hotspur and Ruslan Malinovskyi on the House of Champions Podcast.

Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Malinovskyi in the summer, but according to Romano, that deal fell through because the north London club was unable to offload Bryan Gil to Valencia by the end of August as planned.

However, with January on the horizon, the journalist has indicated that Spurs could move for Malinovskyi again, stating that the midfielder remains a player who is appreciated by Spurs heading into the winter transfer window.

SPURS STILL LIKE MALINOVSKYI

Romano stated that the north London club remains keen on the Atalanta man.

“Tottenham wanted a midfielder, they wanted Malinovskyi from Atalanta and he remains a player appreciated by Tottenham. But it is also about selling players. In that case, it was Bryan Gil to Valencia and Malinovskyi to Tottenham, but Atalanta turned down the loan proposals. Let’s see what happens with Malinovskyi as a midfielder,” Romano said.

POTENTIAL BARGAIN

It is interesting to hear that Spurs remain keen on Malinovsky. After all, his contract is entering its final six months.

As many will know, at this point, a team can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a player in this situation if they’re playing in a foreign league, and that presents Spurs with a chance to get a bargain.

They could negotiate a pre-contract and get this player on a free in the summer, but those types of deals are usually quite rare.

What may be more likely is that Spurs negotiate a cut-price deal with Atalanta as the Bergamo-based outfit potentially look to make the most of their final opportunity to cash in on the midfielder.

Malinovsky is certainly a player worth keeping an eye on throughout January – especially in regard to a potential move to the Spurs.
