Coach believes Klopp may have decided to sign the 22-year-old after his recent performance against Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp was so impressed with Brenden Aaronson’s display for Leeds United against Liverpool, that he’s now decided to sign him.

That’s the view of Aaronson’s former manager at Philadelphia Union, Jim Curtin. In quotes via journalist Tom Bogert on Twitter, Curtin shared an observation from Liverpool’s defeat against Leeds three weeks ago.

“To watch Aaronson play against Liverpool, you could tell by Jurgen Klopp’s body language every time Brenden did anything. Look, I wouldn’t be shocked if he’s interested in that kid after how he played against him.”

The 22-year-old American was everywhere as the Reds fell to a shock 2-1 defeat against Leeds at Anfield.

With a high-energy pressing game very much in his locker, it’s easy to see why Aaronson would have caught Klopp’s eye.

One thing we know about Klopp is that he can be swayed by good performances from players against his team.

Both Darwin Nunez and Takumi Minamino, to name but two, have benefitted from this in the past. If you put on a display for Jurgen, he’s likely to take notice.

While Aaronson didn’t score against Liverpool, he may perhaps have already been on their radar before the game.

Despite Leeds’ lowly position in the table, the USA international has been one of their star performers. One goal and two assists doesn’t tell the whole story of how instrumental he is to them.

The New Jersey native is constantly on the move, always looking to press and hassle defenders. There are a few kinks in his game that could do with ironing out, but Klopp is a more than good enough coach to tidy him up.

So, as Liverpool begins the process of revamping their midfield, maybe Aaronson could be a good option.

He isn’t the big, glamorous name that some fans would prefer. But then again, much of Liverpool’s recent success has come from bringing in lower-table Premier League players with big potential to develop.

Think Sadio Mane, Gini Wijnaldum. Andy Robertson. As Klopp starts a new team cycle, perhaps he’d be wise to return this fruitful strategy. If that’s the route Liverpool decides to go down, then Aaronson should be near the top of their list.
