“Happy to let him go” – Journalist believes Ten Hag may sack big Manchester United star after Ronaldo.

According to transfer insider Dean Jones, Manchester United manager Erik ten, Hag is ‘happy’ to sell Harry Maguire after he has failed to secure a regular spot in the Old Trafford giants’ backline this season.

Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, the Red Devils are considering terminating his contract, but another big name could be leaving in the coming months.

What’s the latest news involving Maguire?

Maguire is currently in Qatar, having been included in England’s squad for the fast-approaching World Cup.

The 29-year-old’s selection came after Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate had previously offered his full support during Maguire’s early season struggles.

Maguire has failed to make a lasting impression on ten Hag, who was appointed as Manchester United’s chief following the conclusion of the last term.

The central defender has been restricted to 511 minutes of action, with him only being afforded one Premier League start since August.

Despite being left frustrated at the club level, Maguire will be hopeful of adding to his 48 caps with England in Qatar.

What has Dean Jones said about Maguire?

Jones believes ten Hag’s willingness to regularly overlook Maguire shows he is open to offloading the former Leicester City man in the summer.

However, the journalist has warned that Manchester United will not be able to recoup anywhere near the amount of money they spent on him.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “With Maguire, he’s shown he’s willing to leave him out and I think he’s probably willing to show that he’s happy to move him on too.

“Maguire cost a lot of money, though, and they’re not going to see anything like that sort of money again.

“That’s the problem for United. How much are they going to get for Harry Maguire in the summer transfer window?”

Does Maguire deserve more chances under ten Hag?

Manchester United parted with £80million – a world-record fee for a defender – in order to lure Maguire to Old Trafford in 2019, but he has failed to meet expectations.

The Red Devils lost their first two Premier League games this season, both of which Maguire started, conceding six goals against Brighton & Hove Albion and Brentford.

Those performances will have hurt the Yorkshireman’s chances of winning ten Hag over, and despite making 153 appearances for the club, he faces an uphill battle from here.

Manchester United has risen to fifth in the Premier League table, just three points off the Champions League qualification places and Maguire will find it difficult to establish himself as a first-team regular.
