Newcastle United has reportedly agreed to hire a new head of youth recruitment.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Paul Midgley is set to join Newcastle’s recruitment team after a brief stint as Manchester City’s regional scout. Midgley joined Man City in the summer after serving as Leeds United’s head of national academy recruitment.
Newcastle has invested significantly in its academy so far in 2022 with signings such as Jude Smith, Charlie McArthur, Alex Murphy, Jordan Hackett, Amadou Diallo, and the incoming forward Garang Kuol.
Steve Harper, head of Newcastle’s academy, said on the progress at the club: “[The owners] are putting those levels in of sustainability and experts in the field who can grow the club in every department.
“The investment we’re getting in the academy as well, the changes we’re making there to build it and put a lot of things in place that wasn’t there originally, where the returns are down the line.”
