Tottenham Football Director Fabio Paratici is one of 15 Juventus players being investigated for financial misconduct.
Tottenham Hotspur football director Fabio Paratici could be arrested after being named on a 15-person list under investigation for allegations of financial fraud at Juventus. After the entire Old Lady board abruptly resigned on Monday, an arrest warrant is reportedly being prepared for the Spurs CEO and 14 others.
Earlier this week, Juventus released a sudden statement confirming the club’s board of directors, including president Andrea Agnelli, were all stepping down amid severe financial scrutiny.
The Serie A giants have denied any misconduct after being accused of false accounting and market manipulation by prosecutors and Italian market regulator Consob in recent months.
A statement read: “The Board of Directors, considering the focus and relevance of the pending legal and technical-accounting issues, have deemed it in the best interest to recommend that Juventus adopt a new Board of Directors to deal with these issues.”
Despite leaving Juventus in May 2021, Paratici has been dragged into the controversy, which could affect Tottenham’s transfer operations in upcoming windows.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport and other Italian outlets, Turin authorities are preparing to arrest the 50-year-old and the others already warned they were subject to an investigation.
Juventus published a record-breaking annual loss of £ 220 million last season and confirmed Turin-born Gianluca Ferrero would replace Agnelli as president on Tuesday. Vice-president Pavel Nedved and chief executive Maurizio Arrivabene also offered their resignations.
Laurence Debroux, Massimo Della Ragione, Katryn Fink, Daniela Marilungo, Francesco Roncaglio, Giorgio Tacchia, and Suzanne Keywood have also all resigned. Juve is in something of a crisis, with their share price plummeting almost five percent in morning trading on Tuesday.
The club’s value is also the lowest it has been since 2017, a figure that won’t worry Paratici anymore, but his name being dragged into the scandal is a cause for concern.
He has worked closely with Daniel Levy, Nuno Espirito Santo, and Antonio Conte since arriving in north London.
Paratici played a significant role in luring some of Serie A’s top talent to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in recent windows, including Cristian Romero, Rodrigo Bentancur, and Dejan Kulusevski.
And with the January transfer window on the horizon, Spurs will be keen for his name to be cleared from the financial fiasco in Italy so they can focus on bolstering Conte’s ranks further.
