£22m star suggests he’s open to joining Man City after World Cup

Left-back for Stuttgart and Croatia When asked about reported interest from Premier League champions Manchester City, Borna Sosa admitted to L’Equipe that he may be tempted to leave the Bundesliga outfit.

With Stuttgart in relegation trouble and The Swabians selling the Batman to Sosa’s Robin in 6ft 7ins center-forward Sasa Kalajdzic, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the current campaign has been difficult for the Zagreb-born flyer.

A total of eight assists in only 13 games, on the other hand, tells a very different story.

In a miserable season for Stuttgart, Sosa’s remarkable consistency remains an all-too-rare positive; one of Europe’s most productive full-backs striking up an immediate understanding with Kalajdzic’s successor, Serhou Guirassy.

Sosa opted to stay at the Mercedez Benz Arena last summer amid interest from all corners of the continent. The decision may be taken out of his hands in 2023, however, Sky Germany claims that Stuttgart simply has to sell due to its crippling financial situation.

There certainly won’t be any shortage of offers. Especially with Sosa catching the eye of Croatia at the Qatar World Cup.

MANCHESTER CITY LIKE BUNDESLIGA AND CROATIA LEFT-BACK BORNA SOSA

“There was a lot of interest (in the summer),” says the 24-year-old, who was a constant threat once again during the 0-0 draw with Belgium which secured Croatia’s place in the last-16 on Thursday.

“In the end, I got an offer from Atalanta but decided to stay at Stuttgart. I’ve been there for five years and I’m in no rush to change.”

When pressed on alleged interest from Pep Guardiola’s Man City side, however, Sosa indicated that the chance to continue his development at one of Europe’s elite clubs may be too good to turn down.

“Of course, every player wants to progress and develop his career,” Sosa adds. “I’m sure that, after the World Cup, that will be my case too.”

The £22 million-rated Sosa is on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur and Inter Milan. West Ham United, meanwhile, remain long-time admirers. A new left-back is high on David Moyes’ agenda for 2023.
