Rodrigo Bentancur’s return date for Tottenham after a torn abductor injury is unknown.

Rodrigo Bentancur was substituted during Uruguay’s 2-0 win over Ghana as his nation crashed out of the World Cup with South Korea having beaten Portugal 2-1 in the other Group H fixture

Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur looks set to be sidelined for a number of weeks after he was injured at the World Cup. The Uruguay international had to be substituted in the first half during his nation’s 2-0 win over Ghana.

Despite the win over the Black Stars, Uruguay still crashed out of the World Cup due to South Korea having scored more goals than them in Group H as both nations finished on four points in the table. Spurs fans feared the worst as they saw their star man leave the pitch in tears just weeks before the Premier League resumes.

Reports have suggested that Bentancur has torn his abductor and could be out until the new year. The Spurs midfielder has been one of the standout performers for Antonio Conte this season and will be a huge miss to his squad.

The 25-year-old will look to recuperate ahead of Tottenham’s return to action against Brentford on Boxing Day, just under three weeks from now. The estimated recovery time for a torn abductor is between three to four weeks so it could be that Bentancur does not miss any Premier League action for Spurs.

The Uruguayan midfielder pulled up in the first half away from any challenges or contact from other players, suggesting it may have been a muscular injury. Bentancur will be hoping to recover in time to feature for Conte’s team against the Bees on Boxing Day as they continue to fight for a top-four spot.
