Spurs suffer a major setback as a key first-team player is expected to be out for at least three weeks.

Rodrigo Bentancur of Tottenham Hotspur will be out for three weeks with an adductor injury sustained at the 2022 World Cup.

The Uruguayan started all three games for his country in Qatar but was forced off after only 34 minutes against Ghana. They won the game 2-0 but were eliminated from the tournament by Son’s South Korea, who qualified with more goals than the South Americans.

According to Standard, the adductor injury Bentancur suffered will keep him out of action for at least three weeks. This means he may be racing against time to recover in time for Tottenham’s return to Premier League action. He was already set to miss the Boxing Day game against Brentford after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in the dramatic 4-3 win over Leeds. However, Spurs will be hoping that he recovers in time for their match against Aston Villa, who look dangerous under new manager Unai Emery.

This will come as a huge blow to Antonio Conte as he has been perhaps his best player this season. He has scored 5 goals for Spurs so far including some late winners to rescue important points for Spurs which has helped them stay in the top four going into the mid-season break. He has also provided two assists.

Bentancur has emerged as a key figure in north London under Antonio Conte, becoming a dynamic presence in the midfield since his £20 million move to the North London club in January, along with Swedish forward Dejan Kulusevski.
