Leicester City has slapped a £60million price tag on James Maddison in January as they try to price Newcastle United out of a potential move, sources have told Football Insider.
Leicester has no intention of losing Maddison midway through the season and they feel his value has increased following his impressive form in the Premier League prior to the World Cup break.
Newcastle, who have had their January transfer budget restricted due to financial fair play rules, have been told Maddison’s price tag would be around £60m for Leicester to even consider a sale.
That would put him out of Newcastle’s reach next month and mean he is almost certain to stay at the King Power Stadium until the end of the season.
Maddison is out of contract at Leicester in the summer of 2024, which places his long-term future at the club in severe doubt.
Newcastle failed to land Maddison in the summer after tabling offers of over £40m.
It is understood that Tottenham is also keeping close tabs on Maddison’s situation and their interest has not been diluted by his outstanding performance in their 6-2 demolition of Leicester.
The playmaker has extensive Premier League and Europa League experience at Leicester, who had successive campaigns in Europe last season and the one before.
He has made 185 appearances in total for Leicester, which has yielded 52 goals and 36 assists.
The attacker stood out last season for Brendan Rodgers’ side, scoring 18 times and assisting 12 more across 53 appearances in all competitions.
Maddison has been a shining light for the Foxes this season and has already netted seven times and supplied four assists from 13 Premier League matches.
