Newcastle is now ‘growing in confidence’ that a’superb’ star will join them, according to a journalist.

This is according to transfer guru Dean Jones who has been speaking to GiveMeSport about the interest coming from Eddie Howe’s side in the 25-year-old.

Maddison is currently away with the England squad in Qatar for the World Cup, however, rumblings surrounding his future go on after what was a summer filled with

It was claimed the Magpies were showing a strong interest in prising the midfielder away from Leicester City in the summer and it seems that interest is spilling into the January window.

With the Foxes lingering just four points adrift of the relegation zone and the Toon flying high up in the third spot of the table, Jones believes optimism is growing on Tyneside over a potential move:

“Away from those two, James Maddison is going to be on the move in 2023, and Newcastle United are growing in confidence that he might join them. They are now profiling him as the top target,” Jones said.

TIF Thoughts on Jones’ comments…

Although Maddison, who has been hailed as ‘superb’, is away with Gareth Southgate’s side, he is yet to feature as he continues his recovery from an injury niggle he picked up in Leicester’s final game before the break.

However, he has had a simply stunning season under Brenden Rodgers having provided Leicester with seven goals and four assists in the Premier League alone (via Transfermarkt).

It will be interesting, though, to see whether Maddison would be up for a move in January given there is the belief that he is wanting to play Champions League football next season.

Newcastle certainly seems to be on the right track to achieve that, but there is still a long season ahead of them where it could suddenly change.
