Brendan Rodgers has previously spoken about his ‘ambition’ of managing an international team amid reports linking him to the England job.

The Leicester City boss has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Gareth Southgate as the Three Lions coach. The latter, who has been in the Three Lions hot seat since 2016, has hinted at making a decision over his future following England’s elimination from the World Cup. The Three Lions fell to a 2-1 defeat in the quarter-finals against France at the weekend.

With doubts over Southgate’s future growing, Rodgers and well a host of names have emerged as potential candidates to replace the 52-year-old. The City boss is currently 7/1 with Sky Bet, while Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is 10/1, Chelsea chief Graham Potter 14/1, and Nottingham Forest head coach Steve Cooper 16/1.

Speaking previously about his future and the possibility of managing an international team, Rodgers said: “It’s always been an ambition of mine at some point. But I’ve still got another two-and-a-half years left on my contract here and I’m very happy. I want to finish my contract here and leave the club in the best possible position it can be in.”

Asked whether he was happy at Leicester, the 49-year-old has said: “I’ve repeatedly said about the joy I have here. This season has been a challenge. I’m looking forward to steering the team out of this. From a personal level, it’s never changed for me. I love being here.”
