Tottenham transfer news: Could the club’s January transactions help Antonio Conte’s team secure a Champions League spot?

Spurs are back in action as the Premier League resumes play after the World Cup break.

The team led by Antonio Conte is presently in the last Champions League spot, but they only have a three-point lead with Manchester United closing the gap. They entered the break in good spirits thanks to their 4-3 victory over Leeds United.

Boxing Day’s early kickoff at Brentford marks the beginning of the holiday season for them. The January transfer window has opened with the start of the holiday fixtures.

Richarlison’s hamstring issue has forced him to miss a number of weeks, which poses a dilemma for Spurs ahead of their trip to West London. That just leaves a minor problem with depth should Harry Kane or Heung Min-Son meet a similar fate or need to be removed from the firing line following a demanding stretch.

Who are Spurs predicted to sign before February 3, 2023, as the transfer window will open in just a few days?

Alexis Mac Allister – 12/1

The Brighton midfielder has hit the headlines for his eye-catching performances during Argentina’s run to World Cup glory. Mac Allister made a blistering run before teeing up Angel Di Maria for their second goal in the enthralling final vs France.

Since he helped them end their 36-year wait for success in the grandest international football tournament, there has been much debate over whether he will remain on the coast or eye a move away.

And he won’t be shy of suitors. But as is the case throughout the bookmakers odds, Spurs aren’t frontrunners to make any additions and have been priced behind Chelsea and PSG in the race to sign the 23-year-old.

James Maddison – 10/1

James Maddison’s Leicester City career has been under the spotlight since Newcastle United’s failed approach last summer. The playmaker enjoyed a resurgence in the early part of the season as he inspired the Foxes push out of the relegation zone.

His form warranted him a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad. However, an injury on the eve of the break saw him face a race to be fit for one of the biggest tournaments of his career.

He did return to training but didn’t manage any minutes in Qatar. Now, he will be going into the final weeks of 2022 and the start of 2023 looking to continue that form.

According to Sky Bet, Maddison has one of two options next month with Eddie Howe’s side current favourites to prise him away from the King Power Stadium. But a move to north London isn’t entirely off the cards according to the bookies.

Cody Gakpo – 16/1

Cody Gakpo’s World Cup showing saw him emerge as one of the brightest talents in Europe. But should Tottenham hold an interest, they won’t be alone.

Arsenal have reportedly held a long-standing interest in the PSV Eindhoven captain but since the World Cup, Manchester United have rose to the top – with their former player Ruud van Nistelrooy in charge of the Dutch club.

Gakpo proved his importance chipping in with key goals for Louis van Gaal’s side during the tournament’s winter edition and now his stock is rising along with the clubs monitoring the situation.

Spurs are tipped as outsiders with a host of teams ahead of them according to Sky Bet. United are current favourites, at evens, with Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal, Barcelona and Leeds United – who held a strong interest in the summer – currently billed to have a better chance.

Sofyan Armabat – 10/1

If there was a profile for a combative, no-nonsense, determined midfielder perfect for Antonio Conte then Sofyan Armabat fits that bill. The Fiorentina-man was a key figure in Morocco’s history-making run in the World Cup.

You guessed it; as a result, his stock price has kept rising. Despite having players like Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur in their ranks, the 26-year-old might provide Spurs’ offense a fresh perspective.

Liverpool is the betting favorite, followed closely by Newcastle and Spurs, who are all looking to improve their midfield options.
