In advance of the January transfer window, Newcastle United has “already sent a very significant offer” to Real Madrid defender Ferland Mendy.

According to Foot Mercato, the defender is a player on whom the Magpies are very keen.’

They claim that after three and a half years with Real Madrid, the French defender has been tracked by Newcastle “for a little while.”

They aren’t the only ones, mind, and there could be a nice little auction developing for his signature down the line, with Paris Saint Germain and Manchester City also believed to be keen on him.

Foot Mercato state that the former is ‘observing’ the player’s situation while the information regarding Pep Guardiola’s side could not be confirmed by the website.

It is Newcastle who is pushing ahead with a potential deal, and they have already made a ‘very big offer’ to the 27-year-old.

The details of that offer aren’t mentioned but any idea of a transfer is likely to be met with resistance by Real Madrid, who have the player under contract to 2025 and could even extend this as Carlo Ancelotti is satisfied with the player.

A decision is yet to be made on that front, though, something suitors like Newcastle are aware of, hence their efforts.
