Newcastle has chosen their top two January signings, including a £60 million target for Liverpool.

Newcastle United are looking to sign a number six in January and have Youri Tielemans and Moises Caicedo as their ideal targets.

The Magpies are keen on strengthening in the winter window as they look to kick on and cement their place in the top four in the Premier League. PIF are keen to back Eddie Howe, although there are differing opinions on whether they will spend huge sums or not.

However, that hasn’t stopped a number of names being linked. And according to The Athletic, Leicester’s Tielemans and Brighton midfielder Caicedo are the two Newcastle have ‘extensively watched’.

Eddie Howe is keen to bring a midfielder in with Jonjo Shelvey struggling with injuries. And it seems the pair of Tielemans and Caicedo tick the boxes for the Newcastle manager.

The issue for Newcastle could come down to money and interest from others. Brighton are thought to want around £60m for Caicedo and Liverpool are keen. Tielemans, meanwhile, has been tracked by Arsenal for some time and the Gunners are still considering signing him.

Newcastle take on Arsenal this week in what will be a huge test of their top four credentials.

TBR’s View: Caicedo and Tielemans huge signings for Newcastle

Newcastle’s next few signings could well shape their future under Eddie Howe and PIF. They are now in a position where the next signings they make need to take the XI to the next level.

In terms of a midfielder in that number six position, both Tielemans and Caicedo would be tick the boxes for the Toon.

Caicedo is a bit more raw in terms of his potential and upside. Tielemans, however, is a player who is proven at this level already and would simply walk straight into the Newcastle XI right now.

If the Mags can pull this off, then that top four dream is a step closer.
