‘Here we go: spectacular,’ says Romano. Spurs’ aim has moved on; personal terms are now finalized.

Tottenham Hotspur appears to have missed out on Ruslan Malinovsky, with Fabrizio Romano on Twitter this afternoon giving the Ukrainian’s move to Marseille the here we go treatment.

Malinovskyi’s future has been a topic of discussion for some time. Atalanta’s contract with him expires at the end of the season. And it appeared for a while that he was unlikely to remain in Italy.

Tottenham has been a key protagonist in the battle to land the attacking midfielder. Reports from Tuttomercatoweb last month claimed that Spurs have always been in the race to sign Malinovsky.

Tottenham target Malinovskyi set for Marseille move

It was actually suggested in that report that Marseille was no longer in the race. The Ligue 1 side was reportedly only ready to pay transfer fees for younger targets. And Atalanta was holding out for a £12 million fee for the 29-year-old this month.

But it would seem that that may not have been Marseille’s stance after all.

Romano has suggested that Malinovskyi will seal his move to Stade Velodrome next week. He has already agreed to personal terms. And talks with Atalanta over a permanent move are in the home straight.

Crucially, Romano has used that very significant phrase to describe how close the deal is…

Some Spurs fans may be dissatisfied with Malinovskyi’s departure. Antonio Conte’s men appear to require additional reinforcements in this window. And his contract condition allows for a possible negotiation. He hasn’t been in the best of shape this season.

He’s an ‘amazing’ talent. It would not be surprising if he turned out to be a very wise addition to Marseille in the following months.

Tottenham supporters will be hoping that the club has something better up its sleeve after being in the running for so long.
