The Sun reports that Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is still interested in signing Ajax defender Jurrien Timber in the future.

Man United was interested in signing the Dutch international from Ajax last summer, but the player chose to remain in Amsterdam. With a World Cup spot on the line, the 21-year-old chose not to switch clubs.

However, United’s interest has not subsided. According to The Sun, Ten Hag has directed the club’s scouts to keep an eye on more than a dozen Dutch youngsters, including Timber. Despite his former player’s departure last summer, the 52-year-old remains interested in him.

Timber was Ten Hag’s main defensive target during the previous transfer window, but he turned them down. United then signed his teammate Lisandro Martinez, who has quickly become a fan favorite at Old Trafford thanks to his strong performances in central defense.

The Dutchman did not want to jeopardize his World Cup selection by joining United, but he may be given another chance. Ten Hag is still interested in signing him, and his versatility could be a deciding factor in United making a new transfer offer.

This season, the £40 million star has played as a central defender for Ajax, but he has previously played as a right-back. Ten Hag looks for players who can play multiple positions and are eager to learn.to sign Timber, whom he knows well from his time at Ajax.
