Manchester United are interested in a 17-year-old wonderkid linked to Cantona, who has visited Old Trafford this season.

Manchester United is in the mix to sign promising Monaco goalkeeper Lisandru Olmeta, report Footmercato.

The same outlet which broke the news of Wout Weghorst‘s move to Manchester United, claims the Red Devils are among a group of clubs monitoring the 17-year-old stopper.

Lisandru Olmeta is a person.
Olmeda, 17, is a France under-18 international who stands 6ft 2′′ tall. His contractual situation is intriguing.

He is out of contract at the end of the season and will be free to sign with European clubs beginning July 1. Monaco has offered him a new contract, but according to Foot Mercato, he is hesitant to accept.

Manchester United, and other English clubs, can sign Olmeta from July 20, when he turns 18. Brexit rules mean players outside the UK cannot be signed until they reach this age.

There isn’t much more time to wait if both the player and the club believe this is the best move for his development.

Olmeda is the son of former Marseille and Lyon goalkeeper Pascal Olmeda, who are close friends with Eric Cantona.

Pascal Olmeta appeared in both the Munich testimonial in 1998 and Sir Alex Ferguson’s testimonial in 1999 at Old Trafford. In 2010, he even kept a goal for Manchester United in a charity game for Sport Relief.

Here’s a great video of him wowing the crowd during his ’98 testimonial, which runs the entire length of the pitch.

Lisandru Olmeda has been to Old Trafford far more recently, with the Monaco under-21 side which played against Manchester United in November.

Olmeda was an unused substitute in that game, but it will have given him a taste of Old Trafford, where he could follow in his dad’s footsteps, in more serious competition.

Chelsea, West Ham, Manchester City, and Leeds are all also reported to be monitoring his situation, and while no developments are expected at United’s end this month, this is one to keep an eye on for the summer.
