Brendan Rodgers strikes a deal with Leicester City for Jack Grealish and Boubakary Soumare.

Leicester City is looking to strengthen with at least three new signings this month, and so far the club has been linked to overseas players like Nico Gonzalez and Victor Kristiansen

Leicester City must accept that new signings this month may not hit the ground running, manager Brendan Rodgers has said.

The city is hoping to bring in at least three players, with Rodgers desperate to strengthen a squad that has not received significant investment for 18 months. A winger, a left-back, and a center-back are all desired.

Rodgers will hope that any new arrivals can galvanize his squad and make an immediate impact, as many have done before. But he says the reality is that players can take time to adjust to new surroundings, as he has found with midfielder Boubakary Soumare. Needing the patience to adapt is not exclusive to overseas players though, Rodgers adds.

Many of the player’s City have been linked with this month, including Fiorentina’s Nico Gonzalez and FC Copenhagen’s Victor Kristiansen, do not have Premier League experience, and asked if there is a risk to signing players from abroad, Rodgers said: “Yeah, but that’s all part of it. If they do (adapt quickly), great.

“It’s taken Bouba Soumare virtually a year to get up to speed. I heard someone talking the other day about Jack Grealish just about finding his feet at Man City, and he’s been there and he’s a British player.

“I know it’s very difficult nowadays but you always have to show patience with players, even though the modern world doesn’t allow that. Even if you’re a top player, it takes that bit of time.

“You’d always hope and love that they can come in and just adapt straight away but part of the game and the nature of it, especially if there is a lot of change for a player, is that you have to have patience and retain that composure. Hopefully, then they come through. I just want good players with good personalities.”

So far this January transfer window, 10 of the 20 Premier League clubs have made first-team signings. Of the bottom eight, just City, Bournemouth, and Everton are yet to bring in a new recruit this month.
