Leicester City’s transfer talks with a key target have ‘broken down.’

Latest Leicester City news from LeicestershireLive as talks with Fiorentina over Nico Gonzalez deal reportedly come to an impasse

Talks between Leicester City and Fiorentina over a deal for Argentina international forward Nico Gonzalez have “broken down”.

That is according to Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett, who claims that despite the Foxes’ willingness to pay between £ 20 million and £25m, Fiorentina has insisted he is not for sale. Dorsett did state, however, that a deal could be “resurrected” later down the line with Fiorentina keen on raising some funds to sign a new midfielder.

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers is keen to recruit a new left-footed winger this month and Gonzalez has been the club’s number one target during the first three weeks of the window, but they may now have to look elsewhere. That said, Leicester has been determined to land Gonzalez since the window opened, even after Fiorentina chief Joe Barrone issued a hands-off warning last week.

He said: “I can now confirm that Sofyan Amrabat and Nico González are not for sale. The [Fiorentina] president [Rocco] Commisso already said that — I can confirm the same for both González and Amrabat.” Gonzalez has netted five goals across 11 appearances so far this season and was named in Argentina’s World Cup squad, though he was forced to pull out due to injury.

Leicester may now have to identify alternatives to the 24-year-old to avoid being left short for the second half of the season. Bournemouth’s Jaidon Anthony is a name that has been linked in the past few days and he could be available for a cut-price fee with his contract set to expire in the summer, though Premier League leaders Arsenal are also reportedly keen.
