‘I’m disappointed,’ says Paul Scholes of Arsenal’s £45 million signing against Manchester United.

Paul Scholes says he was ‘disappointed’ with the role Thomas Partey played during Manchester United’s opening goal against Arsenal on Sunday.

Marcus Rashford fired Manchester United into an early lead with a stunning long-range effort, which included a nutmeg on Arsenal’s midfield machine.

Ever since Erik ten Hag walked into Manchester United, and post-World Cup, Rashford has been one of the in-form players in the Premier League.

That was proven when Partey’s misplaced pass was pounced on by the England international, who ran at Arsenal’s defense, before unleashing a thunderous effort at goal.

Whilst it was a moment of pure magic from the rejuvenated Manchester United star, Party should have done a lot when in and out of possession.

That was touched upon by Scholes, who shared his thoughts on that opening goal, as he told Premier League Productions (22/01/23 at 5:25 pm).

“The strike is magnificent,” said Scholes. “He uses Gabriel to block the goalkeeper. But this (Rashford nutmeg on Party), I am a little disappointed in him. I think he just puts his foot through that and there is no panic.

“They have been a bit like that Arsenal. They have been panic-icky. That chop through his legs is brilliant and the strike has that little bit of fade on it. Brilliant center-forwards goal.”

ARSENAL MARCH ON

Both Arsenal and Manchester United turned back the years with their five-goal thriller today, with Eddie Nketiah proving to be the star of the show following his brace and 90th-minute winner.

Someone like Party will feel a sense of relief because, in the first half, it was pretty tough for the £45 million star (Sky Sports).

Man United was crowding him out and being ultra-aggressive towards him because they understand just how important he is to this team.

But whatever the away side threw at Arsenal, they hit back with punch after punch, including scoring a deserved winner.
