James Pearce problems Update on the Liverpool takeover amid ongoing Qatar links The Kop Empire

Liverpool’s lack of Champions League football next season, according to James Pearce, could have disastrous consequences for the club this summer.

Of course, whether such a scenario has a genuine impact on the Reds’ ability to commit to the serious squad surgery required after 2022/23 is dependent on whether the club’s ownership changes.

The process is still ‘ongoing,’ but it ‘could change quickly,’ as rivals Manchester United have discovered.

“Missing out on the Champions League spots this season would leave a sizeable hole in the finances at a time when Liverpool’s rebuild needs to be backed with some serious cash. “Securing a deal for top summer target Jude Bellingham would undoubtedly become much more difficult,” the reporter wrote for The Athletic.

“Who is going to foot the bill for what is required? Will Klopp have to adjust his goals?

“A lot will depend on what happens with the owners in the coming months. Fenway Sports Group has yet to receive the kind of offers it expected for Liverpool, but the process is still ongoing and could change quickly. Uncertainty reigns supreme.”

This update follows a reliable report from Alex Miller on QIA’s talks with the club, though no offer has been made.

The key for Liverpool now is to find an investor or group willing to elevate us to a level comparable to financial behemoths such as Manchester City and, more recently, Newcastle United.

We don’t necessarily need to break through the glass ceiling, but it will be difficult to find individuals willing to advance the club without contradicting our values.

Interest from Qatar, even if it comes from the private sector, will inevitably draw links to the disturbing abuse of human rights locally and in the region, which we simply cannot support as another vehicle for sports washing in the English top flight – REGARDLESS of the benefits such an association may bring.

That leaves us with a very small pool in which to operate, though we are confident that the club will attract the right owner in the long run.
