Newcastle’s bid for the player fell €5 million short of the asking price – Talks about a possible summer deal could continue.

Covering the deadline day, Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte brought a few details of Newcastle United’s chase for Flamengo midfielder Matheus França

The Magpies were said to be struggling to find a deal for the 18-year-old after making two bids, the last worth €20 million, which were both rejected.

Flamengo is said to be demanding €25 million, and meeting the January deadline was apparently a problem for Newcastle.

But not all hope is gone, according to journalist Thayuan Leiras.

He claims that the conversations could continue for a potential summer transfer, especially because the Rio de Janeiro side was in no hurry to sell the player now.

Flamengo had already negotiated João Gomes with Wolverhampton Wanderers, with the young midfielder leaving the club on an €18.7m fee.

So, besides having already lost another promising youngster, the club felt like França should be worth more since he plays in an attacking position.

Newcastle has been linked to many Brazilian youngsters lately, and in case they keep raising their bids for França, it sounds possible that an agreement could be found soon enough.
